Veteran, wife died from single gunshot wounds

Authorities continue investigation of events leading to their deaths

Olson (The Spokesman-Review)
An Iraqi war veteran and his wife found dead early Saturday in Republic both died of single gunshot wounds, authorities said today. Chad Olson and Jessica Armstrong-Olson, both 21, died inside Olson’s childhood home in what Ferry County authorities said appears to be a murder and suicide committed by the former Marine, who had returned from Iraq earlier this year. The Washington State Patrol’s investigation of the case continues as it tries to confirm the events that led to their deaths. Today it made public the results of autopsies performed this week by the Spokane County medical examiner. Investigators said weapons were taken from the home but did not specify. Olson apparently had been having emotional problems in recent weeks stemming from his wartime experiences, and his two-month marriage to Armstrong-Olson had been troubled, authorities and residents in Republic said.
