A 2-year-old Wilbur boy walking on Highway 2 was struck by a pickup Monday night. Jayvin K. Curo is in satisfactory condition at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center after being struck by a 2003 Chevrolet pickup near milepost 220, about a mile west of Wilbur, according to Washington State Patrol. The driver, 81-year-old David L. Sparks, of Moses Lake, was not charged in the crash, which occurred about 6:50 p.m. when he swerved to avoid the boy and sideswiped him, according to the state patrol. “I’m sure that’s not what he expected to see in the middle of the road,” said Trooper Troy Briggs. The toddler was walking eastbound in the westbound lane. Sparks was not injured and drove the pickup from the scene, according to the state patrol. The crash blocked the highway for several hours. A Med Star helicopter responded.
