Harvest Festival planned Sept. 19 at Dahmen Barn

The Dahmen Barn’s annual Harvest Festival includes a pie contest to help raise money for the restored Uniontown, Wash., barn and artists’ center.

This year’s pie contest is limited to apple or “apple with a twist,” which can include flavoring and another fruit combined with apple. No cream or custard pies may be entered. There is no entry fee.

Two 9- or 10-inch pies must be entered. Three judges will evaluate the pies and prizes will be awarded. After the judging, slices of pie a la mode will be sold. Money raised will benefit the art center.

Pies must be delivered on Sept. 18 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. or Sept. 19 between 9 and 10 a.m.

The Dahmen Barn is in Uniontown on Highway 195, about 16 miles south of Pullman. For more information, or to enter, contact contest coordinator Julie Hartwig at jhartwig@clearwire.net or (509) 229-3414.

The third Harvest Festival is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 19. It is free, but donations to the local food bank are encouraged.

In addition to the pie contest, there will be a hay bale sculpture contest and pioneer-type crafts will be demonstrated, including fiber carding, spinning and weaving, lace making, paper making, blacksmithing, candle making, wood inlay and quilting demonstrations.

Activities for children include a coloring contest and face painting. Restored antique farm equipment will be displayed and demonstrated.
