‘Person of interest’ sought in I-90 fires

Upper hand: A Spokane firefighter sprays a brush fire Friday along Interstate 90 near the Finch Arboretum. Smoke and flames from the fire, which erupted about 4 p.m., could be seen on the north side of I-90 near the Garden Springs exit on Sunset Hill. Traffic backed up in the westbound lanes as crews from the Spokane Fire Department and Spokane County Fire District 10 worked to control the blaze, which was mostly out by 5 p.m. (CHRISTOPHER ANDERSON / The Spokesman-Review)
Investigators are looking for a man they think may be connected to a series of fires Friday near Interstate 90. The man is described as white, in his late 40s, “small in stature” with blond or sandy-colored hair. He was driving an older model red/orange station wagon with wood paneling on the sides, according to the Spokane Fire Department. Investigators consider him a “person of interest” in at least four fires that burned Friday about 3:50 p.m. near Interstate 90 in the Finch Arboretum area. The fires backed up the westbound lanes and threatened homes. Anyone with information is asked to call the fire department’s special investigation unit at (509) 625-7052.
