Whitney Wood’s penalty-kick goal 11 minutes into the second half proved to be the difference as Coeur d’Alene slipped past visiting Lewiston 2-1 in Inland Empire League girls soccer action on Tuesday.

Caelyn Orlandi staked CdA (4-1, 2-0) to a 1-0 lead just 3 minutes into the match. Lauren Nuxoll scored for Lewiston (0-1-1, 0-1) in the 58th minute.

In non-league matches between IEL teams, Moscow (3-3, 1-2) beat visiting Lake City (0-1-1, 0-1) 1-0 behind Kerry Moller’s goal in the 14th minute. … McKinzi Obaitek scored in the 58th minute and Sandpoint (4-2, 3-0) edged visiting Post Falls (1-3, 0-2) 1-0.

Boys soccer

Patrick Green found the net twice and visiting Coeur d’Alene (4-1-1, 1-1) did all its scoring in the first half and romped to a 6-2 win over Lewiston (0-2, 0-2) in Inland Empire League play.

In non-league among IEL teams, Mac Stannard had a hat trick by halftime and finished with four goals to lead visiting Moscow (3-2, 2-1) to a 4-1 win over Lake City (1-1, 1-1). … Daniel Anderson scored twice in the first half – the second goal on a penalty kick – and visiting Sandpoint (5-0-1, 3-0) held on for a 2-1 victory over Post Falls (2-1, 1-1).

Volleyball

Post Falls (3-1, 1-0) dropped the first game 23-25, but bounced back to win 25-15, 25-21, 25-22 in an IEL-opening win over visiting Lake City (1-1, 1-1).

•In non-league matches between Greater Spokane League teams, visiting Central Valley rolled to a 3-0 victory over Gonzaga Prep. Mt. Spokane knocked off visiting Ferris 3-1. East Valley hit the road and swept Rogers 3-0. Shadle Park held off visiting North Central 3-2. Lewis and Clark edged host University 3-2.
