Convert kids? Good luck

The Spokesman-Review

I’d like to comment on the idea behind preventing children from viewing the president’s speech on education at school.

First of all, it seems silly that certain people think their kids are somehow going to be converted to Marxism merely by listening to the commander in chief discuss getting an education. I’m a parent and I have proof: Kids pay more attention to their peers than grown-ups. The idea of a one-hour speech somehow burrowing into their brains and taking root for life is ridiculous, seeing as they hardly listen to any of the wise advice their actual parents give them.

I’d be more worried about reality TV and violent computer games: Are all you cranky parents sitting with your kids and interpreting that stuff for them? God knows they could use it.

Secondly, if Obama was as hypnotic and compelling as certain people seem to think, able to convert the nation to socialism through the power of his magical TV speeches about staying in school, how come he hasn’t used this power to get the Democrats single-payer health care? When was thoughtful civic evaluation overcome by weird and baseless knee-jerking, anyway? It’s embarrassing.

The kids are watching you!
