Booming good time

The Spokesman-Review

I just returned from yet another wonderful evening up at Comstock Park for the annual Labor Day Concert put on by our wonderful Spokane Symphony orchestra. It was a little colder than usual, but those who came had a great time. The Harry Potter section was enjoyed by the young and old, we sang along to the “My Fair Lady” montage, and enjoyed the more classical pieces throughout.

We were dismayed, however, that they decided to skip the traditional “1812 Overture” at the end (usually played just before “Stars and Stripes Forever”). We have been going to this great event for decades and can’t believe that they decided to take out such a wonderful staple.

I know that money and fundraising is always an issue for such events, and propose they auction off the “cannon” part at one of their events, or piggyback the auction with the Coaches vs. Cancer event that is held in town at the end of August each year.

Either way, bring back the cannons, and bring back the overture!
