Crowd of bicyclists expected at second annual Spokefest

From Staff Reports

Organizers expect hundreds of cyclists Sunday at the second SpokeFest, and late registrations are still being accepted.

The event, intended to promote bicycling among all skill and fitness levels, includes a 21-mile ride and a 1-mile ride, starting and ending in downtown Spokane.

Bill Bender, president of the SpokeFest Association, said organizers expect between 2,000 and 2,500 riders on Sunday, compared with about 1,200 last year.

“I think people wait and look for the weather,” he said. “The forecast looks great, so we’re looking for a big turnout.”

Registration fees are $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and younger. People can register online at spokefest.org; at Mountain Gear, 2002 N. Division St., on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. or Saturday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.; or the morning of the ride starting at 7 a.m., at Spokane Falls Boulevard and Post Street.
