Sandpoint man dies from injuries in car accident

The Spokesman-Review
A Sandpoint man died Friday from injuries he received a week earlier in a car accident south of Sandpoint, the Idaho State Police said. Robert P. Chenault, 84, died shortly before 5 p.m. at Bonner County General Hospital, the agency said Sunday. Three vehicles were involved in the accident Sept. 5. Another driver, Katie C. Caldwell, 16, of Sandpoint, also was injured. The third driver, Susie Jensen, 26, of Sandpoint, received minor injuries. Chenault was northbound on U.S. Highway 95 in Sagle, and Jensen was southbound passing Caldwell. Chenault crossed the center turn lane and struck Jensen’s Acura sedan, causing her to spin out of control, cross both northbound lanes and go off the highway, police said. Chenault’s pickup continued into the right southbound lane and struck Caldwell’s Suzuki SUV on the driver’s side, forcing the vehicle off the road. All occupants were wearing seat belts, and airbags deployed in each vehicle.
