Dropping anchor was error

The Spokesman-Review

I was shocked and saddened when I read your Saturday article on the termination of KREM news anchor Nadine Woodward. Some details were unclear. Were the other news anchors and on-air personalities also given 15 percent pay cuts? Were Randy Shaw and Tom Sherry required to reduce their income in that amount? A 5 percent drop for managers does not seem commensurate with the impact felt by the Woodward/Felt family – two lost jobs.

The anchors become the highly visible faces of the stations to the viewers as they perform so many public service engagements each year. Our trust and respect is earned by their community service. Perhaps someone so new to Spokane as general manager Jaimie Aitken did not understand this when making such a drastic move to save dollars or to assert a position of control. A new younger, cheaper, less experienced, less community-related replacement will not set KREM in good light for fairness or for loyalty to Spokane viewers. I find the station’s behavior in this termination reprehensible.
