KICKOFF: 1:05 p.m. at Woodward Stadium
Records: UNC 1-1, EWU 1-1
Overview: Heading into this Big Sky opener for both teams, EWU coach Beau Baldwin insists it is just a matter of time until Northern Colorado shoves its way into the mix of league’s top teams. The Bears aren’t there yet, but the progress they’ve made in recent years under coach Scott Downing has been impressive. Look for UNC, which snapped a seven-game losing streak with last Saturday’s 31-12 win over San Diego, to try to establish its running game – the best in the Big Sky with an average of 165 yards per game – early. The Bears have two quality ballcarriers, Andre Harris and John Burnley, and a savvy, efficient quarterback in senior Bryan Waggener. They also boast the best pass defense in the conference, having allowed an average of just 170 yards a game through the air.
