Need persists in Afghanistan

The Spokesman-Review

Support for the war in Afghanistan is at an all-time low. Despite the fact that our volunteer military finds it a worthy cause and are willing to risk their lives for that cause and to keep their fellow Americans safe, the majority of Americans don’t think we should be there.

It seems that this majority has become so complacent and so indifferent about what is going on in the world around them that they fail to see the risks. We seem to be doing well at keeping the Taliban, al-Qaida and the insurgents busy over there. Now is not the time to pack our bags and come home.

Our enemies would love nothing more than time to make or acquire more sophisticated weapons and time to scheme their next attack on our country. Is it necessary to have a few thousand Americans killed right here at home by some radicals every few years to get everyone’s attention?
