Prep roundup: Mt. Spokane beats LC for first time

Mt. Spokane (1-2) used the hitting of Leanna Lloyd and an all-around defensive effort Tuesday night to earn its first win over visiting Lewis and Clark (1-2) in Greater Spokane League history.

Lloyd finished with a team-high 11 kills and teammate Jaclyn Brim added seven – including five in the fourth game.

The Wildcats overcame the 17 kills of Lewis and Clark’s Janele Vogt to post a 3-1 victory.

In other Greater Spokane League action, Kristen Harrison finished with 13 kills and Janie Coelho came up with 13 digs to lead visiting Ferris (1-2) to a 3-1 victory over Shadle Park (0-3). Sophomore Cherice Willis had a career-high eight kills for Shadle and tied teammate Kendall Vesneske in that category. … Emma Barrington handed out 22 assists, including seven to Kristi McGowan as league co-leader Mead (3-0) swept visiting Rogers (0-2) 3-0. The Panthers used all 12 players on their roster during the match. … Chrissy Mathison and Kayla Carpenter each recorded nine kills without making a hitting error to lead University (2-1) to a 3-0 win over visiting East Valley (1-2) , which got nine kills from Andrea Heartburg. … Allison Reed pounded down a team-high eight kills and Haylee Brown had 21 assists in helping visiting Gonzaga Prep (3-0) keep pace with Mead atop the league standings with a 3-0 win over North Central (1-2), which got eight kills from Celena Ward.

•Priest River (3-1) got 16 kills from Taylor Stewart and 25 assists Chelsea Linton and put together a 10-point run in the fourth game to trip visiting Intermountain League rival Kellogg (1-3) 3-1. … Bree Arrhenius finished with 13 kills and teammate Tia Asbury came up with 22 digs as visiting St. Maries (5-0) matched past Bonners Ferry (1-3) 3-0.

•Bailey Wold hammered a match-high 21 kills and teammate Brooklyn Robinson finished with 43 assists as visiting West Valley (2-1) hung a 3-1 Great Northern League loss on Cheney (0-3). Mallorie Schoesler had 11 digs for WV.

Samantha Kelley scored two goals and assisted on another as Medical Lake (3-1, 3-0) maintained sole possession of first place in the Great Northern League standings by squeezing past visiting Clarkston 3-2. The Cardinals outshot the winless Bantams (0-4, 0-4) 16-4 … Cheney’s Kellie Zakrzewski scored three goals to post her fourth multi-goal game of the season and the Blackhawks (4-1, 2-1) went on to defeat visiting Deer Park (1-3, 1-2) 6-0. Cheney, which also got a goal and two assists from Tanya Baker, outshot the Stages 17-6. … Visiting West Valley (2-1, 1-1) used four goals from senior DeeDee Garbe to overwhelm winless Riverside (0-3, 0-2) 9-0.

•Post Falls (3-7, 1-3) got a goal from Tareyn White at the 75-minute mark to edge visiting Coeur d’Alene 3-2 and post its first win over the Inland Empire League-leading Vikings (5-4-2, 3-1) in the history of the program. Hayley Smith and Aubree Mercier also scored for the Trojans, who also got 13 saves from goalkeeper Hannah Slinkard. … Lake City’s Nicole Danner scored on a pass from Hailey Spivey in the first half as the Timberwolves (3-2-3, 1-1-2) earned a 1-1 tie against visiting Lewiston (3-3-3, 1-1-2). •Bonners Ferry (2-0) used goals from Emily Pauls and Liz Racer to fight through some offensive sluggishness and put away visiting Intermountain League rival Priest River (0-2) 2-0. The Badgers used every player on their bench during the game.

Adam Borsheim headed in a crossing pass from Jordan Eborall just a minute into the game and Eborall added a second-half goal as Coeur d’Alene (7-1-4, 2-1-1) handed visiting Post Falls (5-2-2, 3-1) its first Inland Empire League loss, 2-0. … Mac Stannard used assists from Ben Clark and Andrew Bender to score both goals for Moscow (6-3-1, 2-1) in a 2-0 win over Sandpoint (7-1-2, 0-2). … Chris Wheelock scored two goals and teammate Alden Bennett added another at Lake City (1-1-1) beat visiting Lewiston (0-3) 3-1.

•Alex Mendez scored two first-half goals and teammate Aaron Moe added a goal and an assist as Intermountain League-leading Bonners Ferry (7-3-1, 5-0) steamrolled visiting Priest River (0-4, 0-4) 5-0. The Badgers used four goalkeepers in the game and pulled most of their regulars prior to intermission.
