In brief: ‘Pirates of Penzance’ today benefits Kiwanis projects

RIVERSIDE – The Kiwanis Club of Downtown Spokane will host “The Pirates of Penzance” today at the Spokane Civic Theater, 1020 N. Howard St., at 7:30 p.m.

The doors will open at 6 p.m. for a reception featuring raffles, drawings, prizes, hors d’oeuvres, vintage wines provided by Vintage Hills Cellars and other beverages.

Tickets are $35 per person. Proceeds from the classic Gilbert and Sullivan performance will benefit Kiwanis Club community service projects.

St. John’s hosts auction Sunday

ROCKWOOD – The 2nd Chance Extravaganza Benefit Auction will be held at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

The event will include a silent and live auction of new and used items, a catered dinner prepared by Chef Elijah Heser of the Davenport Hotel, along with beer, wine and a number of desserts.

Proceeds will benefit the Faith and Environment Network.

Tickets are $35 per person or $250 for a table of 8.

Ride and Run will be Sunday

NINE MILE FALLS – Bike riders, runners and horseback riders can all get out and race Sunday for a good cause – together.

The cost is $40 per team, or $70 the day of the event. All proceeds benefit the National Stroke Association and the Stroke Network.
