Zalud sparks Wildcats

Delaney Zalud had a goal and two assists and the Mt. Spokane Wildcats (5-0, 2-0) scored four unanswered goals on their way to a 4-1 victory over the visiting University Titans (4-2, 1-1) in Greater Spokane League girls soccer play on Wednesday.

Shayla Weiler scored in the 28th minute to stake the Titans to a 1-0 lead, but it was all Wildcats after that. Zalud knotted the score in the 33rd minute and Holleigh Bergstrom’s long header off Zalud’s corner kick gave Mt. Spokane the lead for good 6 minutes into the second half.

Zalud has four goals and five assists this season.

Elsewhere in GSL action, Jessica Bennett had a goal and an assist to spark the visiting Gonzaga Prep Bullpups (4-1, 1-1) to a 3-0 win over the East Valley Knights (0-3, 0-2). Bennett scored in the 31st minute to give the Bullpups a 1-0 lead and assisted on a Maddie Payne goal in the 46th minute to make it 2-0. … Mikayla Anderson found the net with 1 minute left in the match to catapult the Mead Panthers (4-0, 2-0) to a 1-0 victory over the Shadle Park Highlanders (3-3, 1-1) at Albi Stadium. Mead outshot Shadle 23-2. Shadle keeper Ashley Rothrock piled up 19 saves in a tough-luck loss. … Julia Moravec had three goals and two assists to power the Lewis and Clark Tigers (4-2, 1-0) to a 6-0 win over North Central (1-3, 0-2) at Albi Stadium. Kit Parker scored twice for LC and Bev Amstadter had three assists. … Jessica Weber had a goal and an assist to lead the Ferris Saxons (3-3, 1-1) past the host Rogers Pirates (0-2, 0-2) 7-1.
