Palouse Ridge selects Jones

Staff And News Service Reports

Tyler Jones, a 1992 graduate of Washington State who has served as general manager at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif., the last five years, has been named new general manager of Palouse Ridge Golf Club at Washington State University.

Jones, who received his degree from WSU in hotel and restaurant management, helped Poppy Hills earn the distinction from Golf World Magazine as one of the “top five public golf courses” in 2009. In 2007, the Monterey Herald named Jones to its list of the top five most influential people in golf on the Monterey Peninsula.

“He is a Cougar with the background, heart and skill to build on Palouse Ridge’s spectacular start …” said Tom Isaak, president of CourseCo. Inc., Palouse Ridge’s management firm, in making the announcement.

College scene

Hilary Koenigs may be just a freshman at Vassar, but she has already “graduated.”

After two straight weeks of being the Liberty League’s rookie of the week in volleyball, the setter from Lewis and Clark was named the conference’s performer of the week after leading the unbeaten Brewers to four wins in the Union Invitational last weekend.

Koenigs was named most valuable player of the tournament after accumulating 136 set assists (an average of 11.33 per game), including a season- and career-best 37 in one match; 27 digs; two solo blocks; 10 block assists; and four kills.
