When the health care legislation passed, a little-known provision of eliminating the middle man (the banks) in education loan programs was also passed. This saves the federal government over $6 billion a year and instead of cutting Pell Grants due to the present budget problems, the savings go to the students. Fox News commentators, including our local Fox-affiliated radio hosts, and Republicans decry this as a huge government takeover.

In the retail business, when they advertise “direct from source,” it is a good thing; however, when government does … !
