In brief: Cities are partners in dance classes

SPOKANE VALLEY – The cities of Spokane Valley and Liberty Lake together plan to offer a series of dance classes that begin this week. Classes will be offered every Monday in ballroom classic, swing and romance dances such as the waltz and rumba. Six-week sessions will begin Monday, May 17 and July 12.

The classes are limited to adults and teens over 16. The cost is $55 per person or $90 per couple. Registration forms are available at www.spokanevalley.org or call (509) 688-0300.

Walmart grant aids Meals on Wheels

SPOKANE VALLEY – Spokane Valley Meals on Wheels has received $13,000 through a Walmart Foundation grant to the Meals on Wheels Association of America.

The funds will provide the program with a quick freezer to help provide frozen meals to seniors.

In 2009, Valley Meals on Wheels delivered 200 hot meals a day. Recipients receive one hot meal a day, five days a week and receive frozen meals for the weekends. The senior lunch program at Opportunity Presbyterian Church, Spokane Valley Senior Center, Liberty Lake City Hall and Edgecliff Neighborhood Center served 15,400 meals a year.

Parks agency hosts spring event

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Spokane Valley Parks and Recreation Department hosts “Spring into Action,” a celebration of environmental awareness, next Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Valley Mission Park Picnic Shelter, 11123 E. Mission Ave. The public is invited to celebrate the environment by learning fun and interactive ways to protect it.

Women’s golf league seeks members

CHESTER – The Painted Hills Women’s Evening Golf League will have its general membership April 12 at 5:30 p.m. The season will begin April 19 at 5:30 p.m.
