Changes proposed for garbage service

The Spokesman-Review

Stevens County officials are seeking comments on two proposals to save money by reducing garbage service.

Solid Waste Manager Dennis Durbin said the possibilities include closing the Park Rapids Transfer Station and reducing operating hours at the county’s Kettle Falls Landfill.

Under the change, the landfill would operate from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday throughout the year. It would no longer open on Mondays during June, July and August.

Comments will be accepted through April 30. Call (509) 738-6106, fax (509) 738-2850, or e-mail ddurbin@co.stevens.wa.us. Letters may be sent to: Dennis Durbin, Solid Waste Manager, 185 E. Hawthorne Ave., Colville, WA 99114.
