Five-car crash sends three to hospital
Three people have been hospitalized at Kootenai Medical Center after a five-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 95 between Hayden and Athol, Idaho.
Edward L. Spitzer, 88, of Spirit Lake, was driving south at about 2:11 p.m. when he lost control of his Chevrolet Blazer and struck head-on a Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Dawn E. Nolan, 44, of Rathdrum, before hitting another vehicle, according to the Idaho State Police.
Nolan’s car and the other vehicle then struck two more vehicles.

Nolan and Dennis L. Jarchow, 68, of Spokane, were treated and released at KMC emergency room. Spitzer was in fair condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Two other drivers were uninjured in the crash, which blocked U.S. 95 for about one hour. Spitzer was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
