Prep roundup: Highlanders earn victory in slugfest

Katelyn Harvey hit a walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Shadle Park softball team (3-4) over Gonzaga Prep (3-3) 11-10 in Greater Spokane League action Tuesday at Shadle.

The Bullpups scored five in the top of the ninth after both teams went into extra innings tied 5-5. The Highlanders battled back, capping a six-run inning with Harvey’s homer.

In other GSL games, after staking Rogers (2-4) to a 1-0 lead after one inning, North Central (3-3) scored 11 runs in three innings to put the game away 11-1 after five innings at NC. Cilee Brown hit a home run and had three RBIs for the Indians while Kat Lively added two hits and three RBIs. … Taryn Russell had three hits with two doubles and two RBIs and Lauren Lynch snapped a tie in the top of the seventh with a two-run single as Mt. Spokane (4-3) edged host East Valley (2-4) 7-5. Tiffany Lucas struck out 15 and added a home run for the Knights. … Rachel Head had a pair of hits and two RBIs to lead Lewis and Clark (2-4) to a 3-1 win over Ferris (1-6) at Hart Field. Kendall Pavey earned the win for the Tigers, striking out three while allowing one run on six hits in seven innings. … The game between Mead (6-0) and Central Valley (3-2) was postponed and will be made up at 4 p.m. today at CV.

•Other postponements: The game between Timberlake and Kellogg will be played at 4 p.m. today in Kellogg. Medical Lake vs. Deer Park and Priest River vs. Bonners Ferry were postponed without makeup dates.

Baseball

Zach Crane allowed one run on six hits in seven innings while striking out five and Mead (5-1) knocked Mt. Spokane (7-1) from the ranks of the unbeaten, beating the Wildcats 7-1 at Mt. Spokane.

In other GSL games, Cody Sorensen went 3 for 3 with three runs and two RBIs and Ryan Krustangel added two triples and an RBI as Ferris (5-3) won its fifth straight game, holding off Shadle Park (1-7) 9-6 at Ferris. … Alex Buskirk had a two-run double to lead a six-run seventh inning as Lewis and Clark (5-3) rallied to beat North Central (2-6) 9-5 at NC. … The game between Gonzaga Prep and Central Valley was postponed and will be played at 4 p.m. today at CV.

•Other postponements: The game between Sandpoint and Lakeland will be played today at 4 p.m. in Rathdrum. Medical Lake vs. Deer Park, Timberlake vs. Kellogg and Priest River vs. Bonners Ferry were postponed without a makeup date.

Boys soccer

Victor Tardelli posted five goals to lead visiting Deer Park (4-2, 3-2) to an 8-2 victory over Great Northern League foe Riverside (0-7, 0-5). Tardelli scored a hat trick in the opening half before adding a pair in the second half as the Stags scored on eight of their 22 shot attempts.

In other GNL games, Gabe Lossurdo, Petra Lee and Joel Linafelter each scored in the shootout for Medical Lake (5-0, 5-0) and keeper Garrett Lawson came in after sitting through regulation and overtime to hold Pullman (3-4, 3-2) to one shootout goal to give the Cardinals a 1-0 win in Pullman. … Xavier Day and Forester Seipp combined to score five goals as Cheney (6-1, 5-0) outshot Colville (0-5, 0-5) 22-4, shutting out the Indians 9-0 in Colville. … Austin Durfde scored a pair of goals and added an assist as Clarkston (3-3, 2-3) shut out visiting West Valley (2-3, 2-3) 4-0. Sean West recorded 16 saves to earn the shutout for the Bantams in goal.

Golf

Peter Gullickson and Chessey Thomas each earned top medalist honors as the Lewis and Clark boys and girls teams swept the field to take first place in their Greater Spokane League tournament at The Links Golf Course in Post Falls.

Gullickson carded a 2-under-par 70 en route to boys medalist honors, while Thomas notched a 1-under 71.
