In brief: Reserve a seat for Royal Tea party

RIVERSIDE – Reservations for the Spokane Lilac Festival Royal Tea parties will close Monday.

The tea parties will be held on April 18 at the Davenport Hotel with Lilac Queen Hayley and the 2010 Royal Court.

All ages are invited to attend. Girls age 4 to 9 will be eligible to enter drawing to be a Junior Lilac Princess and ride on the float with the Royal Court in the Junior Lilac Parade May 8. Entrants must be present during the drawing.

Tickets for the tea are $20 per person and are available through the Spokane Lilac Festival Office at (509) 535-4554.

Boating safety class starts Monday

EMERSON/GARFIELD – Beginning on Monday, an eight-hour, boating safety course will be offered by the Spokane Sail and Power Squadron, running four consecutive Monday evenings, from 7 to 9 p.m. The courses will be held at 925 W. Jackson Ave. in Spokane.

The class, America’s Boating Course – Third Edition, satisfies the Washington state mandatory boater education requirement, meets the basic education requirements for all 50 states, and is approved by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Cost for the course is $48 per person and $40 for those 17 and under, when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian also taking the course. The cost includes a 244-plus-page course manual and handouts.

Free dump passes offered to residents

NORTHWEST – The Northwest Neighborhood Association will distribute 100 free dump passes on a first-come, first-served basis for residents of the neighborhood at the meeting next Thursday at 7 p.m. at Browne Elementary School, 5102 N. Driscoll Blvd. The northwest neighborhood covers the area west of Ash Street to the Spokane River, bound by Belt Street and Indiana Avenue on the south, Francis Avenue on the north to Fairview Avenue, including Westgate Northwest Terrace.

A driver’s license or a utility bill is required to verify residence in the neighborhood.

Dump passes will be issued on a first-come, first-serve basis. Dump passes remaining after distribution at the general meeting will be distributed on April 17 at 9 a.m. at the COPS Northwest Shop, 2215 W. Wellesley Ave., Suite D next door to the laundry business at Shadle Center.
