In brief: Church to host auction, dinner

OPPORTUNITY – An auction and spaghetti dinner at 6 p.m. Sunday will benefit youth programs at Opportunity Presbyterian Church. The evening at the church, 202 N. Pines Road, will include silent and live bidding.

The meal is $10 for adults, $7 for kids ages 6-13 and children under 6 are free.

Parks plan adult dodgeball league

SPOKANE – The Parks and Recreation Departments of the city of Spokane Valley, city of Spokane and Spokane County are challenging adults to participate in a National Amateur Dodgeball Association sanctioned coed Dodgeball League.

League games will be held from 6 p.m. to dusk on Wednesdays from June 2 to July 28 at Riverfront Park in Spokane for all skill levels.

Registration for a league team of up to 10 players is $220 and is available through each of the participating City/County Parks and Recreation Departments. Registration deadline is May 19. Late league registrations will be accepted until May 26 for an additional $50 fee.

Driver safety program scheduled in Valley

GREENACRES – The Good Samaritan Society will hold an AARP Driver Safety Program at its community center, 17121 E. Eighth Ave. in Spokane Valley, on Wednesday and Thursday at 1 p.m.

The program will offer defensive driving techniques; new traffic laws and rules of the road; how to deal with aggressive drivers; how to safely use anti-lock brakes, air bags and safety belts; and how to handle problem situations such as left turns, right-of-way, interstate highway traffic, trucks and blind spots.

Next Saturday, the Canyon River Band will perform at the Good Samaritan Society Community Center at 7 p.m.

The group plays music from the 1950s through the ’70s, and includes songs from the Eagles, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Buddy Holly.
