Titans roll to win over host Tigers

 

Breann Warren sparked a four-run top of the first inning for University, belting a three-run home run, and the Titans (7-1) kept on rolling, knocking off Lewis and Clark (3-5) 8-1 in Greater Spokane League softball Friday at Hart Field.

Staked to a 5-0 lead after two innings, Devynne Johnson kept U-Hi in control from the circle, allowing one run on seven hits with seven strikeouts.

In other GSL games, Erica Santarossa struck out six in seven innings, allowing just two runs on five hits, and Ferris (3-6) won its second straight game, beating Central Valley (3-5) 8-2 at Ferris. Hilary Johnson was 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI and Paula Lax added two hits and two RBIs. … Echo Barline allowed six hits in seven innings to earn the win, outdueling Tiffany Lucas, who struck out 14 but allowed two runs via wild pitches, and North Central (4-4) edged visiting East Valley (2-6) 3-1. … Julia Rambo hit her first two career home runs and scored the winning run in the eighth inning on a passed ball as Gonzaga Prep (4-4) survived an eight-run fifth inning by Mt. Spokane (4-4) to win 12-11 at G-Prep. Jen Rambo added two hits and three RBIs for the Bullpups, while Sierra Little’s homer in the seventh sent the game into extra innings. … Lauren Stewart had two hits, including a two-run home run during Mead’s five-run fourth inning, to help the Panthers (9-0) pull away from host Rogers (2-6), winning 8-5.

•The Intermountain League game between Timberlake and host Kellogg was postponed by snow and will be made up May 4 at Kellogg.

Boys soccer

Zach Allert scored a pair of goals in the first 24 minutes and University (4-2, 2-1) held off Greater Spokane League foe Lewis and Clark (5-5, 2-3) 2-1 at Hart Field.

Joe Delistraty scored with a minute left in the first half for the Tigers, but U-Hi keeper Cojo Smith shut them out in the second as LC managed just five shots in the game.

In other GSL games, Alec Cutter’s penalty kick in the third minute was the extent of the scoring for Ferris (4-4, 4-1), but it was enough as keeper Nick Stebbins snagged nine saves on 13 shots to shut out host Mead (6-2, 4-1) 1-0. … East Valley (3-5, 2-3) came out firing in the second half, as Tom Tran’s goal in the 60th minute put the Knights on the board and Sean Frucci’s rebound goal 3 minutes later sealed a 2-0 win over Shadle Park at EV. … Garrett Brickey earned his third shutout in six games, recording four saves as visiting North Central (3-3, 1-3) dominated the ball with 20 shots and knocked off Rogers (2-5, 0-4) 2-0. … Devin Allen scored in the first 45 seconds of the match and Joseph Guerrinha added two goals as Central Valley (6-1, 4-1) cruised to a 3-0 victory over Mt. Spokane (0-8, 0-5) at CV.

Baseball

Tyler Schaffer struck out six in six scoreless innings in the opener, and Derek Tymenson added a win in the nightcap, adding a home run and two RBIs, as Timberlake (3-0) collected 16 hits to sweep Bonners Ferry (0-4) 9-1, 10-6 in an Intermountain League doubleheader in BF.
