Cell phone saved avalanche victim

The Spokesman-Review
SEATTLE – A hiker trapped in an avalanche used his cell phone to call rescuers. King County sheriff’s Deputy Chris Bedker said the hiker called 911 Saturday afternoon and said he’d been caught in an avalanche near Snoqualmie Pass. From his explanation, rescuers determined that he was near the main avalanche chute on Granite Mountain. Bedker said the hiker was located and dug out of the snow. He had enough air under the snow but was suffering from hypothermia. The hiker was hospitalized but expected to be OK.
