Crash involving school bus sends five to hospital

A crash involving a Central Valley School District bus sent five students to the hospital this afternoon with minor injuries, school officials said. The bus had just left Broadway Elementary School and had 63 students on board when it pulled up to the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Bowdish Road about 3:25 p.m. The bus was stopped at a red light, when two cars - one headed northbound and the other southbound on Bowdish — collided in the intersection. One vehicle was pushed into the bus. Five students and the bus driver were transported to a Spokane Valley hospital for minor injuries or as a precaution, said Melanie Rose, CV school district spokeswoman. Several other children were checked by paramedics and released to their parents at the scene, Rose said. Students not released to their parents or uninjured were put on another bus and transported home. The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash. It was not known who if any citations were issued to the drivers of the vehicles. More information to come.
