In brief: Senior wellness fair planned for Saturday

SPOKANE VALLEY – Evergreen Fountains Senior Living Community will host a senior wellness fair with live music featuring Diane Copeland Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1201 N. Evergreen Road.

Neighborhood-wide garage sale Saturday

WEST GLEN – The West Glen Neighborhood Association will hold its annual garage sale Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Approximately 60 homes in the neighborhood will participate.

The West Glen neighborhood is located near Hastings Road and Division Street, west of the Wandermere Fred Meyer.

‘Reception’ will raise funds for OutSpokane

CLIFF/CANNON – Community members are invited to a wedding reception they won’t forget.

On April 28, the Glover Mansion, 321 W. Eighth Ave., will host a murder mystery at the “wedding reception” of Becky Giovanni and Stanley Simpson, beginning at 6 p.m.

When a member of the wedding party dies at the reception, attendees of the murder mystery must solve the case.

The evening includes a buffet dinner, prepared by Red Rock Catering, with a top sirloin station, pasta station, Asian station and dessert bar.

Tickets are $25 per person or $20 each for two or more people.

Proceeds will benefit OutSpokane. The event is sponsored by Glover Mansion and Red Rock Catering.

RIVERSIDE – The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Spokane field office will host a naturalization informational session Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Thomas S. Foley U.S. Courthouse, 920 W. Riverside Ave., Room 116.

The public is invited to attend. Topics in the session includes the naturalization process and provide information about eligibility and residency requirements, application forms, fees, the background security check and processing times.

Paint-a-Helmet Saturday for children

FAIRGROUNDS – Area Kiwanis Clubs, Circle K and Key Clubs will present the annual Paint-a-Helmet giveaway Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Spokane County Fairgrounds in building C, 404 N. Havana St.

Approximately 500 bicycle helmets will be fitted and decorated by the children receiving them.

Supplies are limited, so the helmets will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis.

The event also will include entertainment for children.

Dodgeball league seeks participants

SPOKANE COUNTY – The Parks and Recreation Departments of the city of Spokane Valley, city of Spokane and Spokane County are challenging adults to participate in a National Amateur Dodgeball Association sanctioned coed Dodgeball League.

Games will be held from 6 p.m. to dusk on Wednesdays from June 2 through to July 28 at Riverfront Park for all skill levels.

Registration for a team of up to 10 players is $220 and is available through each of the participating city/county parks and recreation departments. Registration deadline is May 19. Late league registrations will be accepted until May 26 for an additional $50 fee.

In addition to organizing league play, the departments are collaborating on a coed dodgeball tournament May 21 and May 22 at Manito Park. Tournament registration is $95 per team. Registration deadline is May 14.

For the tournament, teams of a maximum of 10 players may compete in one of several coed divisions including middle school (age 12-14), high school (age 15-18) and families (age 12 and up).
