Fired The Los Angeles Clippers fired interim head coach Kim Hughes in the team’s third major shake-up in 21/2 months. The team said on its Web site that Hughes had been dismissed and the search for a new coach was already under way, although there were no leading candidates.
Extended The Maple Leafs signed goaltender Jonas Gustavsson to a $2.7-million, two-year contract extension. The deal keeps the 25-year-old Swede from becoming a restricted free agent this summer.
•Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins agreed to a new three-year contract with the team. He took over in January 2009 after Marc Iavaroni was fired and led the Grizzlies to a 40-42 record this season, 16 more wins than last year.
Transferred Former South Carolina women’s basketball star Kelsey Bone has decided to transfer to Texas A&M. The Southeastern Conference newcomer of the year announced two weeks ago that she planned to transfer.
Bone was considered to be the nation’s second- best recruit behind Baylor’s Brittney Griner coming out of high school.
Sidelined Ottawa Senators forward Milan Michalek will miss the rest of the NHL playoffs because of a torn knee ligament that will require surgery. The Senators already were without Alex Kovalev with a torn knee ligament and defenseman Filip Kuba with an injured back.
Signed The Oakland Raiders signed free-agent quarterback Kyle Boller. Boller will be added to the quarterback mix with former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell, Bruce Gradkowski and Charlie Frye.
Fined Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson was fined $35,000 by the NBA for criticizing officials earlier this week. The fine was for comments Jackson made after the Lakers’ win against Sacramento on Tuesday night.
Filed Oakland Raiders coach Tom Cable asked a court to throw out a civil suit filed by a former assistant he allegedly attacked. In a motion filed in Alameda County Superior Court, Cable argued the case against himself and the Raiders should be decided in arbitration under NFL rules. Randy Hanson accused Cable of attacking him at a training camp meeting in August, leaving him with a fractured jaw and broken teeth.
