Genesis Church members plan Earth Day event

Genesis Church, a new congregation affiliated with the Evangelical Church of America, will distribute Earth Day packets today in neighborhoods near the church at 14414 E. Sprague Ave. No. 2.

The packets will include a fluorescent light bulb, a bookmark with tips that the average person can do to be more earth friendly, and a brochure about the church. Church members will also be out in their own neighborhoods.

Pastor Brad Bruszer reports the church is “so new that the signs aren’t changed yet.” Worship begins Sundays at 10 a.m. Dress is casual. For more information call (509) 462-2939 or online at www.genesischurchspokane.com

Book and bake sale

The Veradale United Church of Christ will host a book and bake sale today to raise money for the church garden. The garden is grown to benefit church members and the Spokane Valley Partners Food Bank. Last year the church donated more than 3,000 pounds of fresh produce to the Food Bank.

The sale is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the church, 611 N. Progress Road.
