In brief: BYU-Idaho musicians to perform at EWU

CHENEY – Student musicians from Brigham Young University-Idaho will perform “Sinfonietta,” a classical concert at Showalter Hall at Eastern Washington University on Friday at 7 p.m.

The concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted to benefit EWU’s music and drama departments.

Plant sale Saturday at Manito Park

CLIFF/CANNON – The Associated Garden Clubs of Spokane will have a plant sale on Saturday and Sunday at the Manito Park greenhouse.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit charitable organizations and beautifications in the Spokane area.

Restaurant needs helpers for free meal

CHENEY – The Cheney Free Restaurant will provide the monthly free meal on Monday at the United Church of Christ, 423 N. Sixth St. in Cheney, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The meal will include fresh fruit platters and salads.

The Cheney Free Restaurant is in need of volunteers and is looking for middle school or high school students to volunteer to help set up the event and serve food. Students will learn about food safety and how to make salad dressing from scratch, and each student will have a table to wait on.

Colorful home garden topic of free class

MANITO – “Through the Year with Color and Interest” will be held at the Manito meeting room just east of the Gaiser Conservatory on May 1 at 1 p.m.

The free garden class will provide participants with information on creating a garden full of color with blooming annuals and perennials, along with a diverse mixture of trees, shrubs and vines to give gardens colorful foliage, flowers, berries, winter structure, textures and patterns.

The class is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required.
