Firefighters control sawdust fire

From Staff Reports

A fire in a sawdust pile filled a Spokane Valley woodworking business with smoke Wednesday morning, but firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading.

The owner of Euro Woodworking in the Vista Industrial Park, 111 N. Vista Road, called the Fire Department after arriving for work and finding his shop filled with smoke.

Firefighters quickly put out the smoldering pile of sawdust and cleared the building of smoke, said Bill Clifford, Fire Department spokesman.

Employees had been using a chop saw on Tuesday night to cut wood, and the fire started in a pile of sawdust beneath the saw, he said. It was not clear what caused the fire, although investigators said it was possible a spark may have started the pile smoldering through the night.
