Party sipping stale brew

The Spokesman-Review

I’m ticked off with the tea party. These people blame our nation’s current woes on President Obama, when he inherited Bush’s mess.

Bush was a fearmonger, and his fear-instilling actions are still duping Americans, like Laura Carter, who was quoted at the recent Spokane tea party rally. Does she really believe that Obama is deliberately making enemies “so somebody might go berserk” and justify martial law to “shut down the electoral process”?

This is paranoia at its finest. I interpret Carter’s remark as an excuse to “act berserk,” a he-made-me-do-it attitude.

Is the tea party aware that Bush is the creator of the Patriot Act, which was the greatest violation of civil liberties in recent history? Bush redefined the definition of “patriot,” and many Americans were, and apparently still are, very confused and afraid.

There’s a fine line between a patriot and a nationalist. Bush was a nationalist. Where was this tea party during the eight ruinous years of the Bush administration?
