Seahawks draft LT Okung 6th overall

Associated Press
RENTON, Wash. — The Seattle Seahawks have selected All-American left tackle Russell Okung from Oklahoma State with the sixth overall choice in the NFL draft. New coach Pete Carroll and new general manager John Schneider moved to fill their biggest and most urgent need first in Thursday’s draft. The team expects 36-year-old, six-time All-Pro left tackle Walter Jones to retire before this season following two knee surgeries. Okung is Seattle’s first tackle taken in the opening round since Jones. Jones also went sixth overall, in 1997. Okung started 47 consecutive college games, the last 39 at left tackle. Seattle also has the 14th overall pick later Thursday.
