A world of misunderstanding

The Spokesman-Review

I was dismayed by Jonathan Brunt’s article (“Group wants U.N. proposal on ballot”) in Thursday’s Spokesman-Review. It is disturbing to learn how many people right here in Spokane have so much misinformation about the United Nations.

The United Nations is an organization of 192 countries joining together in an attempt to solve large problems facing the planet, such as widespread poverty, terrorism, genocide and an endangered environment. It provides an arena for discussion, for debate, and provides information and assistance to governments, non-government organizations and other international organizations in many different areas such as human trafficking, health issues, communications, etc.

Those who are interested in getting the true facts about the United Nations can go online to the United Nations website: www.un.org/
