SWAT standoff ends in arrest

From Staff Reports

A man shot at a driver in north Spokane early Thursday, leading to a SWAT team standoff at a Queen Avenue home.

Taurean D. Jones, 22, is accused of shooting at a driver who made a U-turn near him shortly after midnight at Nettleton Street and Wellesley Avenue.

Police found Jones’ bike nearby, along with a shell casing they believe came from the shooting. Jones was arrested after a two-hour SWAT standoff at 2217 W. Queen Ave.

Adults and children cleared the home about 2 a.m., and Jones was arrested on one charge of first-degree assault.

Police say Jones is a gang member. He served six months in jail for felony riot resulting from a gang-related shooting in 2006.
