Cameras coming for skateboard park

New monitoring cameras for the skateboard park should be installed sometime within a week the Liberty Lake City Council heard on Tuesday.

Council member Susan Schuler gave an update from the Public Safety committee. She also gave an update on legislation passed in Olympia regarding golf carts in municipalities, and indicated Liberty Lake will have to address the issue of the state requiring seat belts being worn by passengers on golf carts that travel on city streets, as it is now required by law to wear them.

The council also was presented the first quarterly financial report by administrative services manager Jessica Platt at Tuesday’s meeting.

She showed that the city had collected more than $689,000 in revenue in the first quarter of 2010, 14 percent of the general fund budget for the year. Retail sales tax revenues were down 11 percent from the first quarter of 2009, while real estate excise taxes and business applications were up over the previous year.

The City Council also heard a proposal from the local library about purchasing a couple of computers with programs for children ages 3 to 8. No action was taken by the council on the matter.
