GOP stirred the pot, too

The Spokesman-Review

I’ll agree with Mona Charen (April 20) on one point. There is no question that the (old) left is capable of violent extremism. But excusing the likes of Timothy McVeigh or the violent rhetoric and worse of the “tea party” movement because of violent anti-Bush protests that occurred during a meeting of the International Monetary Fund in 2007 is simply not possible.

As a reminder to Ms. Charen, GOP politicians did incite a “tea party” rally in Washington, D.C., with a “Kill the Bill” sign. Glenn Beck did incite hatred of the Democratic majority in Washington, D.C., with vicious rants about “communism.” Under the circumstances, the GOP should have condemned hate-filled phone messages, e-mails and bricks through windows by extremists against Democratic pols. They caused it.
