Big plans for some small parts

Alley
From Wire Reports

Kirstie Alley has found comedy in reality TV with A&E’s “Big Life,” but she’s still got her eye on scripted shows.

Alley says she would love guest roles on “Glee,” as an acting coach in search of singing talent, and “Modern Family.”

“I want to play the gay guy’s mom,” she says, referring to Eric Stonestreet’s heavyset character, Cameron. “And they’ve got to do it quick, while I’m still plump.”

As viewers of “Kirstie Alley’s Big Life” know, the 59-year-old actress is intent on shedding the pounds that have routinely landed her on the covers of what she dismisses as “rag magazines.”

The ex-Jenny Craig spokeswoman, who regained weight she lost on the program, is aiming to drop 80 pounds through an organic regimen.

Before she gained weight about five years ago, Alley says, she carried a svelte 130 pounds or so on her 5-foot-8 frame.

She sees the reality show as a way to work with her teenage son and daughter, True and Lillie, and to provide a realistic take on weight loss.

“I wanted people to watch the journey of it, instead of me showing up with, ‘Oh, I’m skinny,’ ” says Alley.

Escaping a killer

Michael C. Hall’s wife says the “Dexter” star is “fully recovered” from cancer and is back at work.

Jennifer Carpenter, who plays the sister of Hall’s serial-killer character, says he was “incredibly brave” when he announced in January that he was undergoing treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer that attacks the lymph nodes.
