Meal will raise money for needy families

Tickets are on sale for the Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant’s Spring Tea and Lunch.

The May 8 fundraiser will include a four-course lunch made by chef Karen Torkelson and volunteers.

Teas are donated by Pleasant Blends Gourmet Coffees and Teas of Spokane. Black and herbal teas will be served.

The menu will include four courses starting with lemon poppy seed muffins, coconut bread and white chocolate chip scones.

Chicken and wild rice soup is the second course. The third course will include sandwiches with sweet onion mousse on pumpernickel bread; curry chicken salad in mini croissants; cucumber sandwiches; egg salad; and smoked salmon mousse in cream puffs.

Desserts offerings include raspberry oat bars, lemon cookies, Russian tea cookies, chocolate and raspberry bites, and mini pecan tarts.

The lunch and tea will be held at 12:30 p.m. in Providence Auditorium at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center. Free parking is available.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. so ticket holders can browse through the offerings of local artists and crafters. Tickets are $40 per person or $300 for a sponsored table of eight, which can be decorated by the sponsor. Money raised by the event will benefit the Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant, a nonprofit group that serves nutritious meals to women and children in need.

The restaurant serves dinner Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. and lunch Fridays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the basement of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1620 N. Monroe St.

Volunteers also provide fresh food for takeout on Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m.
