Prep roundup: Panthers put hurt on Tigers

Jordan Hardy and Emma Barrington combined to go 6 for 6 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored and the Mead softball team (14-1) scored nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings to defeat Lewis and Clark (6-9) 10-0 in five innings Tuesday at Mead.

Alisha Meade allowed no runs on five hits in five innings to go to 12-1 on the season for the Panthers, who hold a 11/2-game lead in the Greater Spokane League standings over University.

In other GSL games, Delaney Zalud allowed one run on one hit and struck out nine in five innings as Mt. Spokane (7-8) beat Rogers (4-10) 12-1 at Mt. Spokane. M’Liss Powles had three hits, including a home run, with four RBIs and two runs scored for the Wildcats.

The following GSL games have been rescheduled to today and will be played at 4 p.m. at the same locations: University at Ferris, Central Valley at North Central and East Valley at Shadle Park.

•The Intermountain League game between Kellogg and Priest River was postponed by rain and will be made up May 5 at 4 p.m.

Baseball

John Schmedding was 3 for 3 with a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored and Colin Young added two hits and two RBIs as University (9-6) scored eight runs in the third inning to knock off Rogers (2-13) 13-1 in five innings in GSL action at Rogers.

Three players had at least two hits for the Titans, who finished with 11 against the Pirates.

In other GSL games, David Machtolf allowed two runs and two hits while striking out seven in six innings and Gonzaga Prep (4-11) outlasted host North Central (2-13) 5-2. Danny Rowland tallied the big hit for the Bullpups, a two-run single in the third inning to give them a 4-1 lead.

The following GSL games have been rescheduled to today and will be played at 4 p.m. at the same locations: Mead at Central Valley, Ferris at East Valley and Shadle Park against Lewis and Clark at Hart Field.

Boys soccer

Xavier Day and Forester Seipp each knocked in two goals as Cheney (12-1, 11-0) outshot Riverside (1-12, 1-10) 24-2, shutting out the Rams 8-0 in Great Northern League action in Riverside.

The Blackhawks scored six times in the opening half, led by Seipp’s two goals and a pair of assists from C.J. Skilingstad.

In other GNL matches, John Bloss scored goals in the 78th and 80th minutes to snap a 3-3 tie and lift Deer Park (7-5, 6-5) to a 5-3 upset victory over Medical Lake (10-2-1, 9-2) in ML. Victor Tardelli added a pair of goals for the Stags and assisted on the final two goals by Bloss. … Kevin Spangenberg had two goals and Trevor Snodgrass added a goal and two assists as Pullman (8-5, 8-3) scored three first-half goals to beat Clarkston (6-6-1, 5-6) 4-1 in Pullman.
