Man looking for porcupine dies in accidental shooting

A Greenacres man who set out to kill a problem porcupine died today from what investigators believe was an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot. The shooting occurred at a home on 6219 S. Chapman Road, which county property records show is owned by Gary L. Kadow, 67. Spokane County Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan identified the victim as a 67-year-old man but declined to confirm if he was Kadow. The victim’s wife called 911 about 1 p.m. and said her husband “had accidentally shot himself with a shotgun and was in a field nearby,” Reagan said in a news release. She said he’d gone outside to kill a porcupine that had fought with one of the couple’s four dogs. Deputies found the man dead. His wife told police he had medical issues, but investigators don’t know if they contributed to the accident, Reagan said. A woman at the home declined comment.
