Officers should speak out

The Spokesman-Review

So the Spokane Police Guild doesn’t want the no-confidence vote pertaining to the police chief made public. Now that is a surprise. Maybe so they can lie about the results and get away with it.

The credibility of the Spokane Police Department is down around their ankles and still falling. Why is it not important to them to be honest and have the public trust? Is it just arrogance? Do they think it doesn’t matter if they lie and intimidate juries to protect their own?

A few bad apples can spoil the barrel, however it seems to me most of the police in the department would know about the bad cops and want to get them out of the department. Take responsibility, clean the place up, so to speak. What a concept, a Spokane Police Department people can be proud of for a change.

Let’s remember Officers Storch and Blessing, two good cops who stepped forward and took responsibility. Are they still on the police force? I hope so.

Editor’s note: Spokane police Officers Erin Blessing and Shaidon Storch testified last fall against a fellow officer who was accused but eventually acquitted of physically abusing a handcuffed suspect.
