Saxons’ streak hits six

Austin Weber struck out seven and scattered four hits Thursday as Ferris defeated visiting East Valley 9-2 in a Greater Spokane League baseball game shortened to five innings by rain.

Beau Bozett of the Saxons (12-6), who doubled and homered, had three runs and three runs batted in. Chase Haack added two doubles and two RBIs as Ferris extended its winning streak to six.

Alec Baker doubled for the Knights (3-13).

The other scheduled games – North Central at Gonzaga Prep, Central Valley at Mead, Lewis and Clark at Shadle Park and Rogers at University – were rained out and rescheduled for Saturday.

Softball

Jill Pecka and Lauren Stewart were a combined 5 for 9 with four RBIs as first-place Mead (15-1) powered to a 10-3 win at East Valley in a GSL game. Morgan Mays of the Knights (5-10) hit two homers and had three RBIs.

The other scheduled games – G-Prep at NC, Ferris at Rogers, Mt. Spokane at Shadle and CV at U-Hi – were rained out and rescheduled for Monday.

•Post Falls’ Inland Empire League 5A doubleheader at Lake City was rained out. No makeup date was announced.

Boys soccer

Kevin Spangenberg’s score sealed a 4-2 shootout as Pullman (9-5, 9-3) posted a 1-0 win over visiting Medical Lake (10-3-1, 9-3) to take over second place in the Great Northern League. Chris Hamlin notched the shutout for the Greyhounds, who lost to ML 1-0 in a shootout earlier this season. … Also in the league, Randall Harris scored the first two goals during West Valley’s 3-2 win over visiting Clarkston (6-7-1, 5-7). The Eagles (7-7, 5-7) recorded their fourth consecutive win and tied Clarkston for fifth place. … Jose Ferrari totaled two goals and one assist and Jacob Mager added two first-half goals as first-place Cheney (13-1, 12-0) rolled to a 6-0 win over visiting Colville (2-12, 0-12). Austin Walker assisted on the first two scores for the Blackhawks, who improved their winning streak to 13. … Fourth-place Deer Park (8-5, 7-5) registered a 7-3 home win over Riverside (1-13, 1-11).

Boys golf

Dominic Artzis shot a personal-best, even-par 72 at the Fairways at West Terrace to lead Colville to the team title at the third GNL tournament.

Second-place Casey Cox (74) and Drew Cowbrough (79), who tied for fourth, also helped Colville (406) to a 19-stroke win over Pullman. Third-place Deer Park was another shot back.

Women’s tennis

Idaho seniors Gabriela Niculescu and Maria Perevoshchikova earned all-Western Athletic Conference honors during the WAC tournament banquet at Fresno, Calif.

Niculescu received first-team honors in singles and doubles. Her doubles partner, Perevoshchikova, was also second team in singles.

•Washington State sophomore Elisabeth Fournier was named to the All-Pacific-10 Conference second team. WSU freshman Liudmila Vasilieva made honorable mention.
