The Spokesman-Review
A Newport man was killed when the car in which he was riding was hit by another vehicle during a rain and hail storm today. Barry A. Hodges, 64, was declared dead on the scene of the accident, on Highway 2 near Camden Road, about 8 miles south of Newport, the Washington State Patrol said. Hodges was westbound in a 1986 Buick Electra driven by John J. Bixby, 55, about 12:45 p.m. today when Cheryl M. Farley, 54, lost control of her eastbound 2008 Subaru Forrester, the WSP said. Farley’s Forrester crossed into the westbound lane and hit the Buick, police said. Both Bixby, of Riverside, and Farley, of Newport, were transported by MedStar to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, the WSP said. Both were in critical condition Friday evening, according to a nursing supervisor.
