In brief: Body recovered from plane

LUDINGTON, Mich. – Authorities have recovered another victim of a small plane crash in Lake Michigan.

The Mason County, Mich., Sheriff’s Office says the victim’s body was recovered Saturday night. One of the four missing passengers still has not been recovered. All of the victims were on a medical plane that crashed into Lake Michigan on July 23.

The body recovered Saturday is that of either co-pilot Earl Davidson or Dr. James Hall. The medical examiner still must positively identify the body.

Bodies belonging to Alma school superintendent Don Pavlik and his wife, Irene, were recovered Friday. The pilot was rescued the day of the crash.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It’s not made of gold, but a yellow lobster pulled from Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay is very rare.

Lobsterman Denny Ingram said he found the lobster in the bay’s East Passage last week. It is golden on the top and bright yellow on both sides.

Experts say the genetic feature is very rare, occurring in about 1 in 30 million lobsters.

It’s also apparently good luck for this lobster, who will not be heading to anyone’s dinner table. Ingram said he plans to keep the yellow lobster on display at the fishermen’s co-op at the State Pier in Newport.

Fires mostly contained

PALMDALE, Calif. – Fire crews in California are gaining ground on a smoldering 2-day-old wildfire that charred nearly 22 square miles of brush in the high desert north of Los Angeles.

Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Don Kunitomi said Saturday evening that the blaze is 82 percent contained. He said no structures are threatened and all evacuation orders have been rescinded.

A separate wildfire burning for several hours in the Angeles National Forest is now 80 percent contained.
