Dogs seized from Hauser Lake not up for adoption

The dogs seized Friday during the investigation of a Hauser Lake-area dog-breeding operation are not up for adoption and are not in danger of being euthanized, officials said Monday.

SCRAPS is holding 39 dogs that a veterinarian determined needed additional care, including treatment of severe ear infections and grooming issues such as matting. At least one dog has a skin problem, said Nancy Hill, director of the animal shelter.

Wilma L. Turner, owner of the operation, was arrested on weapons charges Friday and booked into Spokane County Jail. She was released after she posted bond Saturday.

Turner owns Ironhorse Ranch, 26727 E. Hauser Lake Road in Spokane County, where she breeds labradoodles. The breeding operation is being investigated for animal mistreatment.

The owner has 15 days to petition the court for the return of the animals, Hill said.

The shelter will hold the animals for now.
