Re-elect Driscoll
In its July 30th endorsement of Shelly O’Quinn for Spokane’s 6th District, The Spokesman groused that Rep. John Driscoll has limited “potential to be influential” because he is too moderate a Democrat, then claimed that O’Quinn’s moderate conservatism would make her an influential leader. How is it that a moderate Republican, in a Democratic-majority legislature, could have more “influence” than a moderate Democrat in the same situation?
The paper praised O’Quinn’s ties to Spokane, small business experience, social outreach work and moderate views, but Driscoll, too, possesses all of these qualities. He was born and raised in Spokane, attended WSU and Whitworth, established and managed a Spokane business for 25 years, and his social outreach work includes directing Project Access and the Ronald McDonald House, to name a couple.
Moreover, Driscoll’s legislative dedication to small business concerns earned him the Business Institute of Washington’s 2009 Award. As vice chair of the House Health Care Committee, Driscoll has repeatedly shown dedication to increasing access to affordable health care, sponsoring HB 2521 and HB 1308.
Why has The Spokesman endorsed a newcomer over a legislator who possesses many of the same qualities, including being a political moderate, but has already proven his effectiveness? Re-elect John Driscoll.
