Center plans car wash to recover stolen funds

Robbers didn’t ask for a car wash at the Northeast Youth Center’s fundraiser; they grabbed the cash box and drove off.

Kate Zehner Green, a center spokeswoman, estimates the robbers made off with around $400 from the July 17 fundraiser. Now they will hold a “recovery” car wash on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Shamus’ Sandwich House, 4212 E. Sprague Ave.

The nonprofit youth center helps low-income children attend a summerlong recreational camp.

When police ran the plates of the car, they found that it was registered to someone in Chewelah, Wash., and they didn’t have any more leads, Green said.
