River City and Blasingame SpokaneValley champions

The regular season No. 1 teams finished No. 2 when Spokane Valley Baseball tournament champions were crowned to complete summer youth competition.

Both Midget regular season winner Raycap (Greenacres) and PeeWee unbeaten Liberty Lake I lost in the title games at West Valley on July 31.

River City Pizza/Pasta (Otis Orchards) defeated Raycap 10-5 in the Midget title game. Blasingame Insurance (University) topped Liberty Lake 4-1 for the PeeWee crown.

Midget: River City, tournament No. 2 seed, jumped on top with a three-run first inning and led 6-0 after three innings behind starting pitcher Jacob Townley, walks and a couple timely hits.

Cleanup hitter Nick Durand went 3-for-4 and scored three times.

River City (12-2) won three straight games in the 10-team playoffs that pretty much followed form. Raycap also finished 12-2 for the season and had beaten River City Pizza 6-5 during regular season.

River City players are Durand, Townley, Jacob Patrick, Ben Norin, Brayden Hamilton, Dalton Schutz, Daniel DeMara, Patrick Parelius, Rachel Lunstroth, Tyler Bliesner and Tyler Skogen, coached by Angie Patrick.

PeeWee: No. 3 seeded Blasingame Insurance (13-2) was a perfect 4-0 in the playoffs after losing to Liberty Lake I (14-1) 4-3 during regular season.

The taut title game was scoreless into the third inning. Seven Blasingame batters had struck out before leadoff hitter and pitcher Michael Coumont slugged a run-scoring triple and ultimately scored for a 2-0 lead. Coumont also doubled and scored in the fifth to complete scoring.

Liberty Lake was hitless into the sixth before scoring its lone run.

Blasingame players are Coumont, Adam Bruno, Brayden Mueller, Brenden Furukawa, Hayden Frohlich, Hunter Gladden, Hunter Nees, Jarett Wright, Logan Holt, Quinland Hopkins, Ryan Crosswhite and Zach Trumble. Coach is Guy Coumont.
