WSU’s Allard wins 2nd golf tourney

Washington State University women’s golfer Kristen Allard won the CPT/Saratoga Spa Collegiate Open, her second victory on the Collegiate Players Tour this summer.

Allard shot a three-round total of 209 (-7), winning the event by 18 strokes.

Earlier this summer Allard also took home medalist honors at the CPT/Penn Oaks Collegiate Open in West Chester, Pa. She posted a three-round total of 228 (+15) at the event, winning by three strokes.

Cross country

Officials at the Community Colleges of Spokane are trying to contact athletes who competed for Spokane Falls Coummunity College in cross country in 1967, 1969 and 1970, and track and field in 1970 and 1971 to be honored at the school’s Hall of Fame luncheon on Oct. 30.

Tennis

Jose Bendeck, one of the best Columbian junior tennis players, has become the second player to sign with Idaho and head men’s tennis coach Jeff Beaman this summer.

Bendeck was ranked as high as No. 1 in Columbia for both the under-16 and under-18 groups, and was as high as No. 12 in South America in under-16. He also represented Columbia on the junior national team.

Track and field

Four women and six men from the Whitworth University track and field teams were recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as 2010 Division III All-Academic Track & Field performers.

Javelin thrower Rachel Busick, hammer thrower Erica Cox, distance runners Joy Shufeldt and Tonya Turner made the women’s academic team.

Hammer thrower Alex Couette, distance runner Nick Gallagher, shot putters Jeff Kintner and Michael Nahl, high jumper Cody Stelzer and hammer and discus thrower Ron Whitley made the men’s team.

• Washington freshman javelin thrower Joe Zimmerman (Lewis and Clark) was recognized on the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association 2010 Division I All-Academic Track & Field team.

Volleyball

Jennifer Fry has joined the Washington State University women’s volleyball program as an assistant coach, head coach Andrew Palileo announced.

Along with her coaching duties Fry will coordinate the Cougars’ recruiting program. She replaces assistant coach TeAna Tramel who left WSU last month to become the head volleyball coach at Nicholls State (Louisiana).

Fry spent the past three seasons as the volleyball head coach at Norfolk State (Virginia).

Earlier this summer, Fry coached at the USA Volleyball High Performance collegiate A3 level camps in Wisconsin.

Administration

Catherine Walker has been named the assistant athletic director for compliance at Gonzaga University. Walker served as the assistant director of compliance at Washington State University for three years prior to being hired with the Bulldogs.
